Hong Kong-headquartered telco Wharf T&T has won a multi-million dollar bid to supply, implement, and maintain the network infrastructure for the HKEx's (Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing) hosting services data center in Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate.

The Tier 4 facility -- to be completed by Q3 this year -- will be ready to serve different users including participants of the HKEx, technology providers, information providers, and network service providers -- starting December this year.

Multi-steps migration

"We will have the cash trading migrated to the TKO facility in October," said Jonathan Leung (pictured), head of hosting services, HKEx. "Next year, we will finish migration of the futures trading system [to the new data center] in April and the migration of the clearing system in October."

The TKO data center is part of the HKEx's HK$3 billion (US$386.3 million) investment in upgrading its core trading platforms announced in March. The HKEx Orion program is aimed to deliver connectivity networks, a state-of-the-art data center, and systems providing order matching, market data dissemination, and market access services, said Leung.

The new data center will support up to 1,200 racks with a total power load of 8MWm, said Leung, adding that the HKEx ensures power redundancy with two cables to be connected to two sub-stations of CLP.

According to Wharf T&T, it will deploy carrier-class Ethernet switches from Juniper Networks as part of the data center network infrastructure.
