Savvis, a CenturyLink company and a provider of cloud infrastructure and hosted IT solutions for enterprises, is simplifying the movement of data between its Hadoop-based platform and enterprise data systems.

Under a strategic agreement with Hortonworks, an Apache Hadoop developer, Savvis will leverage Hadoop to offer cloud-based big data solutions for enterprises.

Hortonworks Data Platform, a massively scalable Hadoop-powered platform for storing, processing and analyzing large volumes of data, will be integrated with the Savvis Symphony suite of cloud services.

"Enterprises are increasingly interested in and exploring big data solutions," said Steve Garrou, vice president of global solutions management at Savvis. "The combination of the Hortonworks Data Platform with the pay-per-use model, agility and simplicity of Savvis' industry-leading cloud services will offer tremendous value to our clients. Ultimately, Savvis' strategic agreement with Hortonworks will enable enterprises to leverage Hadoop to create valuable information through the searching, indexing and analyzing of sizeable quantities of information assembled from multiple sources."

Hortonworks Data Platform provides an open, stable and highly extensible platform that makes it easier to integrate Apache Hadoop with existing data architectures. "Offering cloud-based big data solutions for enterprises will greatly help Apache Hadoop become the next-generation data management platform," said Mitch Ferguson, vice president of business development at Hortonworks.
