NEC to deliver social business SaaS for SMBs

Japan-based NEC Corporation will provide social networking and other collaboration tools for small and medium businesses starting the first half of the 2012 fiscal year.

NEC's new carrier cloud services, comprising social networking, instant messaging, e-meetings, email and calendaring, are leveraged from IBM SmartCloud for Social Business that is delivered on a software-as-a-service model (SaaS).

The services are scheduled to deliver in Asia Pacific, EMEA, and Latin America.

Together with NEC's carrier cloud services, IBM social business tools can help carrier customers to deliver SaaS collaboration solutions for their business users.

"Small and mid-sized businesses have a lot to gain from social collaboration in the cloud," said Bethann Cregg, vice president, IBM Social Business Cloud. "The combination of highly reliable business applications with the flexibility of cloud delivery models makes it easy to work seamlessly with people inside and outside of the organization."

According to Ken Sugata, general manager, carrier cloud division, NEC, the company currently provides customized SaaS, desktop-as-a-service and infrastructure-as-a-service platforms to carriers globally.
