Hong Kong OGCIO approves 40 public cloud vendors

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) today announced a list of 40 companies that will offer more than 300 approved public cloud services to government bureaux and departments in Hong Kong.

These public cloud services are grouped under four categories: A) Productivity applications; B) Business applications; C) Cloud IT services; and D) Social media applications. The names of the companies with their approved cloud services are listed here.

The Hong Kong government is spearheading a three-pronged cloud computing model: 1) an "in-house private cloud" to be owned and operated by the government; 2) "outsourced private clouds" to comprise facilities dedicated to the government in secure data center operated by contractors; and 3) "public clouds" for generic applications involving non-sensitive information. The listed public cloud services here will form such government "public clouds."

"All listed service providers have agreed to follow a standard set of terms and conditions for GPCS. By referring to the list to invite quotations and place orders in accordance with government procurement procedures, bureaux/departments need not go through lengthy procurement for each and every acquisition, thus saving time and effort in procuring the required services," a spokesman for OGCIO said.

The approved cloud vendor list follows OGCIO's request for information exercise in February, which invited submissions for developing a list of government public cloud services (GPCS) providers for reference by all bureau and departments.

Regular refreshment

To maintain the service quality, OGCIO will refresh the public cloud services catalog regularly. OGICO also encourages listed GPCS providers to request for inclusion of new services, changing existing services, or removing obsolete services, subject to the approval of the OGCIO.
