CITIC Telecom CPC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International Holdings.
According to Edward Yeung (pictured, right), general manager, Greater China, VMware, CITIC Telecom CPC is the first Hong Kong-based company to achieve the VMware vCloud Powered status.
Yeung said: “The VMware vCloud Powered program was developed to enable our service provider partners to differentiate themselves and help them bring their enterprise-class cloud services to market in this competitive landscape. We look forward to supporting CITIC Telecom CPC further as it delivers on the agility and performance customers are looking for in the cloud computing landscape.”
“Achieving this status is a clear recognition of our continuous efforts and determination to bring the best to our customers and stay ahead in the market. To achieve the status, we have devoted significant resources on the cloud technologies as well as ensuring our cloud support team members have attained VMware Certified Professional (VCP), said Daniel Kwong (pictured, left), CITIC Telecom CPC’s vice president, information technology and security services.
Kwong said there is currently a handful of Hong Kong-based operator staff that have attained the VMware Certified Professionals (VCP) certification. Those in Singapore and Taiwan have yet to achieve VCP certification.
Apart from the VMware vCloud Powered status, CITIC Telecom CPC has also achieved ISO 27001 for IT security practices, ISO 20000 for IT service management, and ISO 9001 certification for IT assurance. Kwong said when other cloud computing-related certifications have matured, the company will consider applying for them.
Cloud management platform
VMware vCloud is a cloud management platform. Kwong said: “VMware vCloud architecture is a highly scalable platform that enables a complete set of cloud solutions. With its great partitioning capability for multi-tenant setup, customers can enjoy the full benefits with the flexibility of developing hybrid cloud environments according to their business needs, with cost effectiveness. Customers can also benefit from the agility of cloud computing, with the security, performance and application portability they need.”
Launched in July 2011, SmartCLOUD is CITIC Telecom CPC’s cloud computing solution series, which combines its expertise in connectivity service, enterprise-grade data center facilities and security, together with VMware’s cloud infrastructure and technologies.
SmartCLOUD comprises a virtual server solution branded SmartCLOUD Compute which deploys a resource pool model with an online self-service console named SmartCLOUD Compute Director, enabling customers to enjoy high flexibility on their resources allocation. Another product in the SmartCLOUD series, SmartCLOUD M@il, is a set of e-mail, calendaring and collaboration tools. It is seamlessly compatible with various platforms and hardware, allowing customers to collaborate anytime using any devices.
Backup, replication and recovery
CITIC Telecom CPC also announced it has recently enhanced SmartCLOUD’s disaster recovery solution with backup, replication and recovery capabilities. The one Gigabit per second onsite backup rate enables users to replicate data onsite and offsite for backup, using an image-level snapshot approach and reverse incremental technology.
Comparing with backup, the replication capabilities can even shorten the recovery time from hours to minutes, as well as recovery point from day to hour. Instant recovery is also possible by adopting the Global Server Load Balancing technology. These ensure customers to capture their data comprehensively without missing any information and retrieve the data in a timely manner.
Upcoming SaaS and PaaS offerings
CITIC Telecom CPC also announced upcoming product launches as part of its SmartCLOUD series:
Developer platform
Targeting at the developers market, CITIC Telecom CPC will extend its partnership with VMware to deliver the vFabric Platform-as-a-Service.
Desktop virtualization
Building on VMware View 5, CITIC Telecom CPC will extend the virtual infrastructure to the desktop environment. SmartCLOUD users will be able to provision new desktops in minutes anywhere, anytime, and from any computing devices.
